Membrane Switches and Graphic Overlays

A membrane switch is an electrical switch for turning a circuit on and off. It differs from a mechanical switch, which is usually made of metal and plastic parts. A membrane switch is a circuit printed on a flexible material like Polyester or Polycarbonate.

The ASTM defines a membrane switch as a momentary switch device in which at least one contact is on, or made of, a flexible substrate.

There are several advantages to use a membrane Switch for operation of your Electronics device. A membrane switch costs substantially less than the PC board mounted keys and board that it replaces, it is less to replace, modify or change. A Membrane switch is a sealed environment preventing most environmental contamination of the device. A membrane switch can incorporate functionally with an ascetically pleasing background.

Our Membrane Switches are widely used in various electronics fields such as Industrial controls, measurement instruments, fitness equipment, medical devices, chemistry and metallurgy, testing equipment, electronic scale, environmental protection equipment, appliances, building safety system and fire alarm system.

Reliance customizes and manufactures Membrane Switches and Graphic Overlays to your specifications and drawings. If you do not have drawings, our engineering staff will help you to customize a membrane switch.
